Hello Core Class 2019!
Our next session is Public Policy and Economic Development on January 4, 2019. AGENDA

We will spend the entire session at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center (101 Champ Blvd., Manheim). There is ample parking at the rear of the building. Please enter through the black gates and head to the right.

Our breakfast will be from 7:45-8:00a, and programming will begin promptly at 8:00a.
Dress for the day is BUSINESS CASUAL.

You do not need to bring your notebook. You do not need to print a copy of the agenda. One will be waiting for you in your class box folder.

If you are unable to attend this session, please let me know as soon as possible for planning purposes. You will be in small groups throughout the day, and groups are planned ahead of time.

Additional items:
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: As we head further into winter, please be aware of how we will proceed in the event of inclement weather--the January, February, and March sessions have snow makeup dates (listed in your binder). When at all possible we will attempt to proceed with our Core Class. If that is not possible, we will may delay for an hour or two, or postpone until the makeup date. Class status will be posted on the Facebook page and website. Of course, in the event of inclement weather, your safety is most important. If you feel you are not able to safely reach us, please do not attempt to do so.

Please take note of the final homework assignment: Community Board Observation (due 4/26). The link to complete the homework is under the password protected Core 2019 tab.

During our February session, you will be attending workshops with staff and volunteers from the community benefit sector as a part of our Leadership Advantage Conference. There is no cost for Core Class members to attend. Simply visit the event page to register and place your workshop selections. You will use the promo code "Core2019" at registration.

Homework Assignments

As part of the Core curriculum, you will be asked to complete homework assignments throughout the year:

  • Please complete the ORIENTATION homework and return in a sealed envelope marked with your name at the County Tour (October 5).
  • The ARTS homework is due by November 16th. Please attend a local arts and culture performance, event or exhibit (visual, theatrical, musical, museum exhibits, etc.) and evaluate your impressions before the Arts & Culture Session on December 7th. Feel free to be creative with this.
  • The GOVERNMENT OBSERVATION is due by December 17th. For this assignment, we are asking you to observe a city or county government meeting (planning commission, city council, township meetings, etc) and report on your observations.
  • COMMUNITY BOARD OBSERVATION is due April 26. As part of your CAT project, you are to observe the Board meeting of a community benefit organization involved with your topic. Your entire group does not have to observe the same organization.
